  1. Best total review I have found on the net. Can you give any info about the PSE BRAKE LT.
    THANKS. Peter Bowler. NZ

    1. Thanks for the kind words Peter. I’ll try to get my hands on the bow and review it, I’ll notify you by email.

  2. Thank you for excellent info.

How would you rank G5 Prime compound target bows, or I should stick to your original reviews?

  3. Hi I’m 17, female, about 5’3″, and 130 lb. I have no experience when it comes to archery so I have no clue what to look for. I’m really interested but I’m a total noob so anything you can tell me would help. This sight looks really informative. Thanks!

  4. Thanks for the thorough review/info-most complete I’ve seen after some significant looking.

I’m interested in both target shooting and hunting eventually and was wondering if you could provide me with a bow recommendation.

I used to shoot recurve-a long time ago-but never compound.
I’m 6’1″, 200 lbs, in shape, 40 years old, would like to stay well under $500.

I’m leaning towards getting fixed up at an archery shop, but have also considered used…

  5. Hi I am looking for a compound bow

  8. Hi – I am a male 27 years old and have always rifle hunted for whitetail deer. I am looking into bow hunting the 2017 season but have no archery experience. My budget is $500. Any suggestions on a compound bow?

  9. Hello, I’m a 20 year old 5’3, 160lb female. I love archery and how its a fun, stress relieving, activity. I would like to stay within the 150 and below range for a bow. I have passed the level of 15yrd line and have graduated to the 30 yrd line at my camp that I work at. But that’s the most archery experience I have currently. Thank you!

  10. Really enjoyed reading the article about bow speed – not sure I agree that as stated 60# is beginner

Understood with stronger bow you can shoot at longer distances, but would challenge ethical aspects of hunt if you bow hunt at distances past 60 yards. Seen bragging comments about (not on your web) individuals shooting deer at 95 yards – this is not ethical, nor recommended

So with that said curious why the comment about 60# being beginners – not many will go for dangerous games….

  14. I’m a fifteen year old male that weighs 165 lbs and is 5’10”. I’ve shot arrows in P.E. and at camps before. I work out a lot so I’m strong for my size. I wanted a bow for target practice and possibly hunting. But mainly practice.

  15. I have a question about tuning down my draw weight. I have a PSE Stinger. Its maxed out at 70. I want to go down to around 55, maybe 60lbs. How many turns on the limb bolt would equal a pound. Or how many whole turns should i do, then try? Thanks!

  16. I was wondering what a good beginner bow would be for an adult male, 5’11” and 215 lbs? Budget range of 500-700$ and it would be used for target practice and whitetail hunting. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  17. Hello,
I decided to get back into shooting a bow and begin bow hunting. I say back into it because as a kid (10-12) I would target shoot at different competitions. I wasn’t great, nor did I take it super serious. I am now 30, 6 feet 2 inches and approx 200 lbs. I am left handed and intend to hunt. I’m looking for guidance towards what bow to choose as a starter bow.

  21. Hi Dan,

I have decided to take up bow hunting and have absolutely no clue where to start.

I am based in KL, Malaysia and there are a few ranges around here but the language barrier and the ‘big sell’ of the local shops is putting me off.

What info, other than that I am left handed do you need to point me in the right direction.

    appreciate your help.

  22. What do you recommend for a senior (75 yrs old) with the following;

    Male, 75 yrs old, 5’11” tall, 195lbs
    Open on budget
    No previous experience
My goal is target practice only

  23. I’ve never shot a bow and arrow before but there is a range nearby and I’d really like to see if it is something that I would enjoy. I’m a male, age 47, around 5’10” and 225 lbs. I only want to do it for target practice. Any advice you could provide me would be much appreciated.

  24. I really find your website helpful. I am new to archery, my husband bought me an Infinite Edge about 2 years ago and I really like shooting. Now I would like to move to another bow for hunting whitetails. I am a woman, 25 draw length shooting 400 spine Gold Pro Hunters at around 45lbs draw weight. I am considering the Eva Shockey SS from Bowtech as the bow shop reps seem to think I will love it.

How do you move from one bow to another and know it is the right bow?
Women’s bows in particular are hard to try first as they often do not carry them in stock.
(The Eva Shockey is ordered so that I can try it out. They are convinced I will love it or they can sell it to someone else).

Do you have any suggestions for what to look out for when testing a new bow?

    Thanks in advance.

  27. My name is Eric and I am 46, am 6’2″ and weigh 240lbs
My budget is around $400 and I want to use it for Rosevelt Elk hunting in the Northern Coastal Range of Oregon.
My experience is low to none at all except that I used to work at a military surplus store that sold both firearms and bows and we would occasionally do some practice on our indoor range. I shot a BowTech Tribute and fell in love with it.
What do you suggest for a beginner?

  28. Hello there! I am a 5’9″, 135 lb female who has taken one semester of archery classes a few years ago. I am look for a bow under 400 $ for hunting and general survival purposes/defense in the woods as opposed to a gun. What compound bow would you recommend? I don’t have the best upper arm strength, but I can develop it. I also know nothing about arrows.

  29. Hi Dan,

I came across your review on the best compound bows and I was really impressed. You were able to explain the factors we should consider succinctly, and you went on to discuss how much we should budget for the bow.

You are providing a ton of value to your readers and I would like to be a part of that. I hope to contribute a post or anything that you think would bring value to your readers!

Although I don’t have a lot of budget for this, I know you are really busy, and I would like to compensate you for your time. Please let me know if you are open to explore various opportunities.

I am excited to hear back from you.

    Thanks,

  30. Hi, I am a 15 year old boy, 168cm tall, 65kg in weight, And I have a budget of under $300 dollars. At school I have used a recurve bow but have no idea of the specs of it. My goal is to shoot rabbits around my house, which is less than 100m in length and shoot at a target for practice. I live in Australia and am interested in taking out rabbits for food. I would like to know what the risks are with a cheap compound bow set valued at $260 dollars (AUS)? And what kind of compound bow would suit me? Thank you heaps, there is no shops nearby that I can visit for advice and no one I know has any idea either!

  31. Looking for a beginner compound bow.

    Any suggestions would be great.

  32. Hey there,
I’m new to archery and currently trying to figure out how to purchase a first bow. I’ve done a lot of shooting with recurve bows only. The heaviest one I had access to had a 30 lb pull weight; and it tore up my fingers, but I did become very comfortable with the draw. Could anyone advise me on any differences in drawing a compound bow of similar weight? I’d really appreciate it.
For reference, I’m a 5’2”, 120 lb, assigned fem kid, and I’m confident in my upper body strength.

  33. Retiring and want to pick up a new hobby.
